So tracking/push button starting.... http://www.innovativeignitionsystems.com/#!gsm-31-rfid/cw16

GMS-31-RFID

The GSM-31-RFID system is a must have for any auto enthusiast. Makes locking, unlocking and even starting your car hassle free. Once you reach your destination, simply press the start button again to shut the vehicle off, exit the vehicle, leave proximity of your vehicle and the system will lock your doors for you. With the additional convenience of Bluetooth PKE, you no longer even need to carry a remote. Your smart phone is now your smart key, simply walk into proximity of the vehicle with your smart phone on you and the system will communicate with your smart phone through Bluetooth. Once in proximity the system will unlock all the doors for you and when you leave proximity the system will lock all the doors for you, same as using a smart key. This system also has GSM & GPS Technology so you can, lock, unlock & even remote start your vehicle all from the convenience of your smart phone + track your vehicle from virtually anywhere. What are you waiting for? Grab your GSM-31-RFID system now and lose your keys for good!

this is really interesting to me, I have a friend who just recovered his FJ40 because it had tracking in it.... so this gets me my 3 levels of protection:
1) Snohomish County Sheriff SAR sticker... you screw with this car, the owner is friends with the Sheriff... if that doesn't bother you
2) find the key, methhead... and
3) if you do manage to move it, I'll track you and you'll wish the Sheriff found you....

and finally, there's a bonus.

My wife has trouble keeping her keys attached to herself. I can literally start the vehicle wherever a cell-tower can reach (beside the hidden start and the key fob start) I can start the vehicle.

and it has an annoying alarm.

$450 seems pretty cheap, especially since there is no monitoring charges

thoughts, again...?

no need for power locks for the system to work... you know, the biggest detriment to this, that I've seen so far, is all the blasted antennas that are required for the system to work. 2 for the key fobs, one for the GPS, one for the GMS.... all have to be not blocked by metal.... and the FJ is all metal.

decision made on the push button start.... this one - I'll use my SPOT system to trace...

Stand Alone RFID Keyless Push Button Start Systems

[h=6]RFID-688-PBS[/h]Stand alone RFID keyless push button start system

The RFID-688-PBS is a stand alone keyless push button start system. This system comes with two RFID key tags that will have to be swiped over the receiving antenna before the vehicle can be started using the push button start. Once you have swiped the RFID key tag over the receiving antenna of the system, the push button start will be active for 30 seconds. Once you reach you destination simply shut the vehicle off using the push start button, 30 seconds after the vehicle is shut down the system will deactivate the start button not allowing the vehicle to be started until the owner returns and swipes the RFID key tag over receiving antenna. This system can be installed in conjunction with a factory or aftermarket security system. The PBS-688-RFID does have an immobilizer bypass output wire and comes with an immoblizer bypass. There are two different button designs to choose from as wel so make sure you click the specialized button link below and choose the start button you want shipped with your system, if no button selection is chosen it will be shipped with the long button as shown. What are you waiting for? Grab your PBS-688-RFID now and lose your keys for good!

getting closer to body-mount
header mod, take 2

some cutting and fitting

and there it is

body back on, I could attach it, but it's so much easier to paint it on my body-dolly that I'm going to wait for it to show up back on my doorstep and finish some more of the minor stuff... like the tire carrier and rear tail gate....

so the goal was 4" up travel in the front and back.... 7 1/2 up front at the moment and 2" back.... fortunately, I can' solve the back pretty easily and the front won't be so tough either... just get some 175 or 150 lb upper springs.

I changed the rear springs so it sits level...

still arguing with the shock folks about what I need for springs...

the shorter flare

painted pedals

the beginnings of a spare tire carrier

prior mentioned radiator reservoir.

back on the '40
first step, mount the taller springs

and I still can't convince the spring/coil-over dealer to send me 150# springs... I know he's trying to help and I'm trying to maintain my sense of humor.

onto the rear swing-carriers

I was going to go with 1 pivot, but the tire is a monster that is going to be on there, add 10 or 15 gallons of fuel, a cooler and a hi-lift jack - and hanging off one would really stress the mounts and the poor sap who has to push it uphill to lock it or try to hold it open when the vehicle is aiming downhill.... so two it is.

ever look at a mounting spot and think "that's way too good"... yeah, this is protected yet accessible... but before I make it permanent I'm going to consider it a bit more

it is(ish).... the first iteration was and was too big because it hydraulics in it... this one, is actually designed to put on a yoke on the rear differential... some mods will be required, but it should work just fine.

tailgate... time to reuse some hinges

thinking about reusing the latch for the spare tire carrier.... not sure it will work, but considering it...

So at 5:30 tonight, I hear a knock at my front door. I don't see anyone in our roundabout, but I see lights at the end of my drive. I think "hmm, odd" - so I grab a convenient Mastiff and go see what's up... I open the door and there a Somalia, probably about 5-2, street clothes, maybe weights 120.... and I have a Mastiff who wants to see who it is.

The guy is carrying this package and said "I have a package.... holyschmidtthat'sabigdogishefriendly" "no" I respond.... the poor guy goes from about 100 words per minute to at least 300 with complete pie-eye.

the package.... I'm suspicious

ImfromDHLIhaveapackageforyouandIneedasignature!!!! "oh", and Buick slips past me to see what tasty treat I have for him... I grab his collar but I don't pull him back....

Then I remember, oh I have a package coming in from Hong Kong... the keyless ignition.... I hesitate a second, give the guy a look like "do I set the dog on your or not?" I can honestly see him revving his engine to get the heck out of there if I decide dog.

I say, "okay, where?" then sign....

and the delivery guy vanished.... all that was left was a puff of smoke where he had been standing. If anyone delivers packages, pull up to the front door.... I was debating gun or dog.... I think the poor delivery guy may still be drying his pants and performing CPR on himself.

oh, and the other side of the package
seems I wasn't the only one suspicious of all this

and what's inside

Anyway, fun aside... I got more done.

time to fix a gap

better, but not good enough

hmmm, I got a bit zealous with the hammer

no big deal, I have heat and a hammer - it is fixed

temporary latches

onto the carrier

2x3x1/4 tube

hmmm, some adjustment is going to have to happen

Party tonight, and I've learned that no matter how well you clean up and build stuff - if it's apart people have no clue.... so today, I did some paper mache work

never mind a stiff breeze would scatter the parts, ah well, it wasn't all wasted, I need to a lot more fitting on the front end before I paint the skirts, hood and grill so it's not a complete waste of time... just mostly a waste and an opportunity to head the gossips off at the pass

body off again

rebuild clutch master.. sometimes heat is required

ran a fuel line and finished up the exhaust (gaskets)

then a big project

drill some holes

screw it on

cuss

pat back for clever relocation

where to mount the caliper

thinking here

for the want of bolts... onto another corner while tomorrow I'll go track down the bolts I need

air filter and water/oil separator mounted

last weld for this side of the exhaust - I honestly haven't decided how elaborate I want to get with the outlets... but this is enough to make it make some noise.

onto the back - braces

now when I push down on the end of the tire carrier, the bumper moves with the suspension - call it the 220# leverage test :)

transfer case brake
first some studs to mount to

bottom bracket

upper bracket (round 1)

I like how it's compact, but working on it would be a pain.... still haven't decided, fortunately I can mount it either way

upper bracket round 2

ready for paint

paint is drying... that should hold the vehicle in place to the limit of the pads.... if not, I have other ideas....
I suppose this saved me some money - but the truth is there isn't a Dana 300 transfer-case brake option... some that are close if you use the other 32 spline upgrade (Advance Adapters), but I liked some features on the Novak 32 spline so fabrication was required....

cost was about $100 and most of that was the wilwood go-kart brake (iirc, $68). I used the wilwood brake because it floats on the rails, it's light, and it's dead-simple... one thing I wasn't thrilled about - the holes around the flat-u-joint are both metric and SAE. That means that 1/2 are 1/4" -24 thread bolts, the other .... ummm, whatever it is is just small enough that it will break screws if you try to drive them in. I'm not sure why Novak did it that way (nor am I sure why they used metric bolts for the u-joint adapter).... not a huge deal, but certainly one you should be aware of if you plan on doing what I did.

assembled picture of brake

worked on the tire carrier and battery box. I've been considering tying the batteries together, and I'm certain that is what I'm going to do... if it was an automatic, I'd get concerned about running on battery down so it won't start, I can pull start this since it's a manual transmission so I'm simply not going to worry about it. It will be nothing, later, to divide the systems - but at this point it will be faster to wire it was one system.... so that's what I'm going to do.

I didn't like how the carrier worked - so I think I'll do load-carrying with a bearing, and center using acetel, delrin, or UHMW as the bottom bearing. As you can see, I have all those materials already so it's merely a matter of deciding which to use

delrin

is normally used for suspension points - but it does not flex.... at all, it is a unidirectional material but it will outlast the car once installed..

home depot sells a shop mat that I've yet to actually use as a shop mat

but it makes great padding for dog crates, and batteries...
