Whats the advantage to a transfercase parking brake versus the type that are on the H3?

BTW ive learned a crap ton of info by following this build.

there are advantages to either:
hub-mounted advantages:
- unless the wheel comes off, you should have emergency braking
- you have two emergency brakes instead of 1
disadvantages:
- complexity, from maintaining adjustment due to the varying cable length, to basically having two different brake system at each rear wheel
- more susceptible to loss of braking due to water or grease contamination
- requires more force to hold the wheel in place
- takes more space at the wheel thereby reducing the available brake surface for the disk brakes

t-case mounted advantages:
- less complex
- force multiplication. I have 4.56 gears in the rear, that makes the t-case brake 4.56 times more effective then a similar wheel-mounted one.
- easier to keep adjusted and suspension movement doesn't cause system to go out of adjustment.

disadvantages
- 1/2 the e-brake force as having one on each hub
- if it fails, it all fails
- if you break driveshafts, you've no emergency brake
- if you have open differentials, you only have one tire holding your entire vehicle from moving
- harder to fit to existing systems

In my case, I have mechanical lockers on both ends, so while in 4wd, all 4 tires will hold it in place
I get larger brakes to control the larger tires
after my struggles with the e-brake on my Corvette.... I'll never, willingly use hub-mounted brakes.

So, I'm done... no more updates this year.... I don't care what you say....

last one

bottom bearings.

and a bit of welding on the receiver hitch

more of my terrible welding

anyway, that's it.... no more updates until next year....

more little things...
finish up the rear door

not sure I like the steering wheel - it was cheap, it looks cheap... this may change or I may modify it but not now

removed what holds the dash on.... sand blasting made removal easy. I used my spot-weld cutter and knew I was deep enough when a bit of sand came out of the hole...

and started on the tank... not sure exactly what I'm going to do here.... ah well, I'm sure it'll all work out perfect ;)

and now they line up

then onto the dash

tomorrow I plan on finishing the bed liner and maybe even start the final body work so I can paint it.... crossing fingers

I'm thinking about building a FJ44 (long wheelbase 40) with the diesel Land Rover motor I have .... now to find the appropriate shell and finish this one
Annoying, everyone else has two colors of bedliner - I buy from the one company that has 3 shade of tan... so I had to repaint the trans cover... and noticed an issue that I'm going to have to watch (and may not be able to do anything about).... it seems to seal, then gasses bubble under the paint..... ugh, I'm not going to have the body sand blasted again so I'm going to go forward, but this is not good news

anyway, tomorrow there will be more work done

forward ho
time to get the last of the stuff to the sand blaster (except for the doors - that's another problem for another day)

grill

thankfully, the lights I bought fit like they were made for it

rear hatch innards

stripped

stack of parts... and I may pull the doors apart tomorrow night to make it a complete load

hateful stack

and its brother

a bit of guide chalk

2 hours later it looks like I've done nothing

Paint

all that crap in the air? it's my filtration system.... gravity. I jokingly call it my "floor refurbishment system"

and I need to buy more paint - more importantly, more activator.... ah well, about the only thing I "must" paint is the window frame and the grill shell.... and I have enough paint for those two things.

Better picture

moving the air tank caused problems... which still aren't solved even after cutting this out

but moving forward, body mounts..

then onto taking doors apart so they can get sandblasted

picture so I remember how it goes back together

though, there is going to be a bit of fabrication here - remember when I said the wing-window hit the roll bar? the fix is a one-piece window, which requires combining a late door and and an early door

anyway, thanks for looking

After some fun back to the grind
move air tank

like this

rear brakes, along with launch control (aka hill holder), plumbed

and the body is now bolted on for good

at least until the next guy rebuilds it from the ground up...

so back to updates
Today was a day off (ish) - since I work for myself, days off look like days working for someone else except longer, fewer vacations, and the worry about making the bills.... but it's totally worth it if you can swing it ;)

first today was run out to a wrecking yard to get an air cleaner

what's really cool is I got a K&N Air filter with the cleaner... there will be mods necessary, but it's the important, first piece, of a snorkel.

assembly

dents successfully covered :)

I sprung a leak, well, I got to practice wound care after I managed to slice into the top of my thumb (through gloves)... fortunately, I was able to staunch the flow long enough so that I could finish and snap that last picture... I laugh, it seems all of my advance degrees have been mostly self-serving... my latest advance degree is Mountain-Oriented 1st aid. Basically, it's training so that if you are leading a group in the wilderness, and something bad happens, you're able to provide sufficient 1st aid up to the point where surgery would be required (no, we can't stab people, but we can sure splint the hell out of them or bind wounds )

Hmmm, I don't know
a suggestion was made that I make the front grill black. I like the idea on Heeps; but I'm not sure I'm buying in on the '40

booster fix

two more parts permanently attached

and some pedals, now I can finish plumbing the brake system

Air compressor... anyone will tell you that the threads on the outlet on a a/c compressor is different then NPT.. they're right, but it's close enough that I can make it work

put a set screw in the fitting, then JB weld the fitting to the a/c fitting... should be good enough... and truly, if zombies were chasing you, I suspect that there is enough interlock there without any extra help to keep it together.... this guarantees it.

hooking up air hoses - I decided to try the heat-shrink tube clamps

and they work

painted the heater, installed the glove box door (after paint), put hinges on the tailgate so I can fold it down while working...

and started working on the lines for the hydroboost

then cleaned the shop... or at least organized it a bit...

mickem frickem... I put the rocker arm nuts in a good place, and have been tripping over them for at least a year... guess what?
yeah, I'll be buying new ones today

didn't get much done on the '40 yesterday - was distracted by something else
but I did get a bit on the master cylinder

and did get the valve covers off in my aborted attempt to adjust the valves

also gave some thought to this color scheme

anyway, it's all off to the blaster today

and we have brakes

still have to fasten the front lines down... but they are bled and they work

in other news, I have every clutch master cylinder except 3/4 inch. multiples of 1"...

ah well, I think I found a solution so the clutch should be good to go on Thursday.
