this afternoon we were going to give it the first start but I had to leave for class, I was pushing it off and ended up being 5 minutes late. I will go back friday and try it my buddy didnt want to start it without me there I think he is also going to throw the battery on a charger. It was completely drained. Still need exhaust and buttoning up the little things so I am still a bit away but I am getting closer.

Well I can't wait to see your update on Friday and maybe even a quick sound bite of the motor starting up . Sounds like Moab was just the mental break you needed . Well keep up the good work .

Yep...still a ways from driving but it's a step in the right direction! Had a CEL but it's probably because I don't have the O2 sensors on yet. Battery light was on but after running it for 15-20 min the battery isn't charging. I just bought it a month or two before the swap so I can get it warrantied.

I'm gonna call it a day. Now I have school/work till 930 tonight but it's been a great start to my morning!

Nothing like that first time you turn the key - and it cranks and cranks and cranks as things pressurize - and then it starts! Congratulations and well done Chris...

OK on the battery charging, the factory system uses a pwm signal is that modulates the field to regulate the charging. I changed to a delco cs144 alternator and it didn't seem to work. Converted it to a standard 3 wire charging system with a sense wire to the main fuse bus and it works fine.

If you get stuck on this one I may be able to help of you can't get it charging. I'll have to review my notes and drawings.

Thanks, I will keep in touch with you on that. I'm still confused on the battery. It's just crazy how I had it charging from the alternator for a solid 15 min and after I turned it off the thing wouldn't even try and crank over, it barely turned on the radio.

How long did you have the motor turned off for? Is it possible that you have some sort of drain?

Did you checked that the alt and it was putting out a charge forsure?

Battery couldn't handle that v8 powa! Sound like the battery to me. Charging voltage should be 13.8-14 v. You checked at the batt terminal right?

Yea checked at the terminal. Going to swap out the battery first. I just need to plug in 2 wires into the back of the OBD2 port to get that fully functioning again. Port 6 and 14. I did email jamie to confirm; do I count from left to right BEHIND the obd2 port or in front of? That will make a difference. Lol I assume it in front of but we will see. This should keep my scan gauge fully functioning.

He also said in the email if the battery light doesn't go away I can swap around a few wires, he asked about reduced power which I don't have!

I also texted reloader yesterday about a small coolant vent hose to check on his alpha because I had no where to put it. Kind of a crappy pic

He said there is a T on the heater hoses and it connect to that. In his pictures the heater hose has a metal portion. So I needed H3 alpha heater hoses, or I found a T that will work on my rubber hoses. Will use that and I also got new plastic clips that will better secure the heater hoses rather then clamping them on. I will get part #s of the T and plastic clips for anyone in the future.

I also want to reroute my fuel lines a bit better. I got to study reloaders alpha when I was in moab and I am amazed how GM was so close to routing exhaust and fuel lines together and then they routed the exhaust right under the tail housing of the t case. They did reroute the fuel lines better then an I5 for the exhaust but it's still a concern. If you break a rear shaft and start spilling trans fluid out of the t case it can hit the exhaust and start a fire. I will attempt to keep it as far away as I can from the fuel lines and t case but there's only so much I can do. I would like to make some sort of aluminum barrier between the t case/ exhaust and fuel and exhaust. Have it mounted to the frame rail or crossmember and have it angled almost like a spill off area that will direct it away from the exhaust.

Also I need to possibly adjust my coil buckets up a tad. I can't tell if it's the slope of the driveway of the added weight. We will see when I start driving it.

Video is on YouTube! It's private let me adjust it and post it up

Today was a rough day...but my buddy took off on this! I'm working all day and this morning I went to my co workers mass, worked with him for 5 years and the night after I got back from Moab he passed. 30 years old and has a 6 year old kid :( he was on his street bike and someone made a left turn pulled out in front of him he went through the window. I was fine until I saw the open casket and me remembering that since day 1 I worked there he would say every summer lets go camping at kern river and take me wheeling out there. Now I can never do that and that's when I lost it.

This entire time I've been present and most of the time doing the work together or alone of the v8 swap. My buddy took off this morning! He did the heater hose clamps that are better the T for the coolant vent hose, that SOB drove it too! LOL CEL is gone for now and he's about to start the exhaust...wish I was there because I have worked on this the entire way but at the same time I have finals coming up working extra hours now and been super busy. I'm gonna try and go over after and do more work

Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate. Sorry for your loss man. That's tough. take things one at a time. If you're buddy wants to start on the exhaust, let him. I always dread starting projects cause I know I'll have stuff scattered all over the house and nothing else matters for that time. And squeaky takes this to a whole new level... But unfortunately, life doesn't stop for projects. it seems like the bulk of the work is done and now it's all tweaking and tuning to get things sorted. You'll get there man.

Thanks, I just like to do the entire job. I take pride in doing all my work but it the end 95% of it I took part in. We will see what he got done on exhaust. He texted me no one had weld in bungs before. I may have to go to the place I got mine at when I did some exhaust work in the past.
