Need new shocks , who likes what ?

I bought the pro comps and they sucked. I went back to OEM shocks

For the H3, I haven't heard anything good about ProComp or Rancho. Ironically, simple shocks like Monroe seem to not offend anyone but OEM, Bilstein and Fox tend to get the best reviews (in no particular order there).

My Ranchos just recently blew out. I'm just another customer with a bad Rancho experience. Sadly, the H3 hadn't see an offroading while having the Ranchos. They are about 11 months old.
I've had 6 Bilstein shocks blow, so I can't say I'd recommend them either (not just on trucks/hummers either, but on a car).
I'm crossing my fingers my Fox 2.0s last. It's too bad Icon & King don't make shocks for the H3.

My front Fox shocks came today and as soon as it cools down from 103 I'll put them in ( most likely tonight or 1st thing in the morning) . The drive to work on Mon will be the test to see how they feel . I haven't opened to boxes yet , but I can tell they are for the front because the box is labeled for a Chevy 1500 (lol).

I put my new Fox 2.0 on the front yesterday and the ride to work today was much better. I can't wait for the rears to arrive so I can see how much better the total ride quality is .

Well my rears finally got here ( they got shipped to a wrong address ) and I just put them on today . So far my 1st test drive felt great . It rides so much better now !

I just recently, as of the past two weeks was forced to revisit shock purchasing. After 18 mons. with the Gabriel shocks I purchased for Happy (07 H3) they began to clank, slump and generally just be all around sh!ty. The paint had peeled, rust and salt corrosion had started something awful. I must have put in several late nights looking and thought I'd found the right ones and each time I'd step back and look at the situation at hand.* what are my real needs?* what do I expect of the product?* does it come with a viable warranty?* and does the vendor actually stand behind there product?I looked at the following and spoke to reps. or emailed/researched via google:Sensa - a huge Asain company that makes shocks for everything...just getting the right part #'s could take some timeBilstein, Fox#####################((((looks like a rebadged Gabriel/Monroe/Tennco Ultra shock))))Monroe, SkyJacker, ProComp, Daystar, TuffCountry, ToughCountry, RuffCountry, Rancho, Napa, OEM####################Deutsche, FOA, OME....learned an awful lot about shocks and vendors and found out that Tennco probably makes the vast majority of other brands shocks. Bilstein makes many others and there are a few who make there own. (Amazon) made the offer to take the shocks back after Gabriel refused to warranty them because they were purchased through amazon. The head of warranty claims (Arvell) gave me this entire story about Amazon getting this awesome discount and that essentially allowed the corporation (Gabriel) to wash there hands of it and walk away. I was like....so I'm the one who gets f@cked and you smile...Lol! He pretty much agreed.Luckily Amazon is a good company to do business with and is refunding all the money plus paying s/h. On a side note I was told if I'd bought them from a valid vendor they (Gabriel) would have covered them.So, lol that is exactly what i did. I purchased a set from Auto Anything for the stupidly low price of $82 + get a $21 rebate mailed to me from the Gabriel Corporation rebate department. Thats $82-$21=$61.00 includes s/h...There were missing hardware in the new shocks and one call to Auto Anything had them here in a couple of days. Funniest part is the shocks this time came direct from Gabriel and the parts came from them too. It will be much harder for the fellow to deny claim for warranty the next time as they came direct from the Gabriel's warehouse.Original shocks from Amazon ran considerably more. So I'm now quite a bit of money ahead and have brand new shocks to boot. Just took the long way around to getting them replaced free of charge and even getting money back. Lol! That is a good day.One last thing. To help avoid corrosion / rust with this pair of shocks, I took the time to prep them, prime, paint, undercoat with rubberized spray and a clear coat over that. Wisconsin winters UGH!

They make a huge difference over the rancho, specially when going high speed over railroad tracks less bounce up ground or damping.

I have Monroe Reflex on my truck now. They are perfect. Big improvement over stock. Not to stiff but they are stiffer than stock. They are cheap and come with a lifetime warranty.

If I'm not mistaken it is just 5160's have reservoirs. I believe both are same valving and all. And reservoirs up front is more of a looks feature since Apparently the 3 doesn't benefit from the reservoirs.

my first set of Biltein 5100s sucked. When they blew I sent them back to be re-built, and Shane in the Offroad Racing Dept at Bilstein asked what truck it was for. They actually have specific valves that they can put in at no extra charge for your truck. They have a tuned setup for an H3 SUV, with an additional 100lbs on the axles (beadlocks and larger tires). This gets modeled into the dampening equation that they have, a valve is selected, and he put those in. The ride and response is just great. But its been 30k and they are blown again.

Ive heard the fox's blow a lot too, and that the Icons are tuneable and can be rebuilt in the field with a socket set. I have to send the rear two shocks back to bilstein now for new seals. $40 each + Shipping one way.

I still run 5100s on the I5 and I find the ride softer on it than the 5160s on the alpha!

I have to disagree. The Monroe shocks allow too much movement (especially after a 2" t-bar and shackles lift) and are softer than stock shocks. I have a video of me on Monroe's coming down a hill and swaying and bouncing everywhere while a buddy on stock shocks was much more controlled.

After seeing this post I just realized I ordered part #25-176407 for 0-2.5" leveling kit hummer h3, after getting that part number from a friend.

Hopefully I can get them switched out.
